Velaa Private Island has been ranked No. 9 among the World Resorts in the Indian Ocean in the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards 2026, recognising the Noonu Atoll retreat for its personalised service, distinctive experiences and attention to detail.
Located in Noonu Atoll, Velaa Private Island features 47 villas and residences combining Maldivian-inspired architecture with contemporary European influences. Accommodation ranges from beachfront and overwater villas to the secluded Romantic Pool Residence, accessible exclusively by boat.

The resort’s dining offering spans contemporary European and Asian-inspired cuisine at Aragu, relaxed beachfront dining at Athiri and teppanyaki at Tavaru, which also houses a wine collection of more than 1,000 labels. Faiy complements the culinary offering with nutritious, seasonal cuisine inspired by Asian flavours.
Velaa also offers a dedicated spa, family activities and the Maldives’ only golf academy, featuring a course designed by two-time Masters champion José María Olazábal. The island is accessible by a 45-minute seaplane journey from Malé or via Maafaru International Airport followed by a speedboat transfer.
The recognition follows a review by Condé Nast Traveller contributor Charlotte Taylor, who highlighted the resort’s private-estate atmosphere, intuitive service and attention to detail.
