Exploring the Waters of Raa Atoll
Raa Atoll offers a varied diving experience, with conditions suited to both recreational and experienced divers. Warm waters, visibility that can frequently exceed 25 metres and generally gentle to moderate currents create favourable conditions for underwater exploration.

A Year-Round Diving Experience
The resort’s location also allows guests to experience marine encounters throughout the year, with manta rays present across different seasons and dive sites positioned on both the eastern and western sides of the island. From January to April, calmer seas and strong visibility create favourable conditions for underwater photography and reef exploration. Divers may encounter grey reef sharks, manta rays, schooling fusiliers and Napoleon wrasses.
Between March and May, the waters can attract larger pelagic species, including silver tip and lemon sharks along the outer reef slopes. Eagle rays, turtles and groupers can also be spotted around coral formations and reef drop-offs. The monsoon transition periods of May to June and November to December bring changing currents and different marine encounters. Nurse sharks can be seen resting in sandy areas, while stingrays move across the seabed. Mobula rays are also more frequently spotted during November and December.
From September to October, plankton-rich waters attract larger gatherings of manta rays around cleaning stations. Reef shark sightings can also become more frequent, with black tip, white tip and grey reef sharks moving along the reef edges.
36 Dive Sites to Discover
With 36 dive sites located close to the resort, guests can explore a range of underwater environments during their stay. The Shark Thilas are known for encounters with grey reef and black tip reef sharks, alongside tunas, jacks and snappers. Kottefaru Bodu Thila features a gentle slope leading towards a cleaning station where manta rays can be seen during high tide, particularly between September and October.
Beriyan Bodu Thila provides colourful hard and soft coral formations populated by anemonefish, parrotfish and moray eels, making it well suited to relaxed dives and macro photography. Digufaru Thila is known for eagle rays, grey reef sharks and occasional nurse shark sightings, while The Wall features a deeper vertical drop decorated with fans and sponges and inhabited by a variety of marine life.
Each site can be reached by a short dhoni boat journey from the resort, giving guests convenient access to multiple dive locations throughout their stay.
